Description

The 2nd Armored Division was formed on 15 July 1940 at Fort Benning, Georgia. It was part of the Western Task Force of Operation Torch, participated in the Allied invasion of Sicily. On 9 June 1944, the division landed at Omaha Beach during Allied invasion of Normandy.
