Anthony Casamento

Anthony Casamento (1920-1987) was a US Marine who fought on Guadalcanal in 1942. As a machine-gun squad leader, he was near the Matanikau River on 1 November 1942 when all others in his unit were killed or badly wounded; despite his own wounds he kept firing in support. His Medal of Honor was only awarded in 1980, after a long campaign by comrades and supporters, seven years before his death.
