Fictional character
Named after / based on: Erwin König
Major Erwin König is the German sniper who duels Soviet sniper Vasily Zaitsev in the film Enemy at the Gates (2001). The story comes from Zaitsev's memoirs and Soviet wartime reports, where the opponent is also called Heinz Thorvald. No German records confirm that such a man existed, so he is regarded as legend or invention.
