Real person Named after / based on: Isao Yamazoe (山添 勇夫)

Captain Isao Yamazoe was a Japanese army officer stationed in Dulag on Leyte in the Philippines during the occupation. Residents remember him as "Captain Yamasoy", a fair officer who refused orders to rob locals and organised sports and shows for the town. Filipino guerrillas killed him on 22 April 1943, and townspeople later built a shrine where he died.
