Nikolai Kabalin (1920-1991) was a Red Army sergeant major who became a Hero of the Soviet Union for his actions in the Dnieper-Carpathian Offensive. He reportedly destroyed a German machine gun and so allowed his battalion to set up a bridgehead. He was seriously wounded in May 1944, discharged, and later worked at the Gorky automobile plant.
