Baron Takeichi Nishi (1902-1945) was an officer of the Imperial Japanese Army and an equestrian show jumper who won the individual gold medal at the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles. At the end of the war he commanded the 26th Tank Regiment during the Battle of Iwo Jima and died in the defence of the island in March 1945.
