Beschreibung

The unit was originally formed as an Army Flying School Squadron in 1918. It suffered casualties after the attack on Pearl Harbor and then was stationed aboard the USS Natoma Bay, off Saipan. The squadron helped to capture Saipan, Tinian, and Guam islands using homemade incendiary bombs made out of napalm, gasoline, and oil placed inside fuel tanks.
