Beschreibung
Initially, the division was formed in December 1923 in Vinnitsa as the 96th Vinnitsa Infantry Division. In the very first battles, the fighters and division commanders showed the greatest resilience and endurance, waging heavy defensive battles against superior enemy forces. In early 1945 the division took part in the Vistula-Oder operation. With the beginning of the Berlin operation, it broke through the enemy defenses on the Neisse River and headed for Berlin.
